We refresh and repair rock landscapes by removing displaced material, re-grading the base, replacing worn weed barrier, and adding fresh rock to restore full coverage. Desert wind and runoff scatter rock beds over time, and UV exposure fades lighter colors after several years.

We install commercial-grade weed barrier fabric under all rock installations and apply pre-emergent treatment to the soil before laying fabric. For existing rock beds with weed problems, we can pull the rock, replace the barrier, treat the soil, and reinstall the rock for long-term weed control.

Rock landscaping is priced per square foot and moves with rock type, the depth you need, and how much base preparation the yard requires. Specialty stone and larger boulders cost more per ton and more to place. Three inches minimum across the coverage area, which is also what SNWA expects on a rebate conversion. Shallower than that and soil shows through, weeds find light, and the rock scatters. Deeper is fine for decorative fields but wasteful over a large area.

Lighter material will. Volcanic cinder and small-diameter gravel move in spring wind and dust events, while three-quarter-inch and larger stays put. Edge restraints matter as much as stone size, because most of the rock that ends up in the street left through an unedged border rather than on the wind.

Under decorative gravel beds, yes. It slows weed emergence and stops rock from working down into the soil. It has to be permeable woven fabric, not plastic sheeting, which traps water and fails SNWA inspection. Under compacted decomposed granite paths fabric is optional, since compaction does most of the work.

No. A conversion needs living plants covering at least half the area at maturity, so a yard of rock with nothing growing in it will not pass inspection. We plan the plant palette and the rock field together so the coverage math clears before installation starts.

Only after grading and a barrier go down. Rock spread straight onto bare dirt sinks into the soil within two seasons, weeds push through from below, and the surface goes uneven within a year. We grade for drainage, lay permeable woven fabric, set the edging, then bring the rock up to depth so it stays where you put it.
